Writing Workshop for Year 9
April 2020

The focus of the Workshop is to develop writing by understanding the process to bring a story to life.

Learn the possibilities of Flash Fiction, where the author asks  the reader to collaborate in the construction of the larger narrative,  like the six-words attributed to Ernest Hemingway:

"For sale, Baby shoes, Never worn."

Discover Hyperfiction and create a web of narrative containing several plots and endings. See Paul La Farge's  Luminous Airplanes and Gina Pinto's Blackbird.

Or stick to the classic Short Story and visit Gina's Blog  Some of My Favourite Short Stories.

Get your story out of the drawer and lets be inspired.

Writing Workshop for RWR 2020
May 2020

Using her skills in linguistics and her Portuguese heritage Gina devises a Workshop for RWR retreaters to understand the ins and outs of inserting Non-English words into English fiction.

The thirty minute workshop covers three major topics: Translation, italicisation and Accent Marks of foreign words.

Learn why authors, like Katherine Vaz use Portuguese words in her English fiction, and why authors, like Junot Díaz convince The New Yorker not to italicise the Spanish words in his stories.
